Brian Tivnan

BIO

Brian Tivnan is a Senior Principal, Modeling and Simulation Engineer at The MITRE Corporation and also serves as the Chief Engineer of MITRE’s Modeling and Simulation Department (E526).  Before joining MITRE in 2002, he had the honor of serving as an infantry officer in the U.S. Marine Corps for nearly a decade.  Brian has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Vermont, a master’s degree in operations research from the Naval Postgraduate School and a doctorate in human and organizational science from George Washington University.  He previously attended the Complex Systems Summer School at the Santa Fe Institute (SFI) and held a SFI Business Network Fellowship.  He serves on the Steering Committee of the transdisciplinary research initiative in Complex Systems at the University of Vermont, where his research interests include the strategic interaction of adaptive agents in competitive contexts, such as conflict and finance.
