Stuart Young

BIO

Mr. Stuart Young has over 24 years of experience managing and performing basic and applied research for autonomous military robotic systems at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL).  His research focus is in the development of intelligent behaviors for collaborating robotic teams operating in militarily relevant environments.  Mr. Young is currently Chief of the Asset Control and Behavior Branch within the Computational and Information Sciences Directorate at ARL.  He leads a team of researchers that develop intelligent behaviors for man-portable air and ground robots.  Mr. Young also leads the ARL Intelligent Systems Center and the ARL Intelligence Research Program that spans the laboratory, including two Collaborative Technology Alliances where he helps to manage a $15M annual extramural research portfolio.  Mr. Young also serves as co-chair on the OSD Autonomy COI Test & Evaluation and Verification & Validation Working Group.  He also leads numerous collaborative research projects with other government agencies including DARPA, the US Air Force, and the U.S. Navy.

Previously, Mr. Young served in the PM Future Combat Systems (FCS) Technologies office as the Project Coordinator for Unmanned Systems and Countermine and Counter IED, where he managed the research portfolio in support of FCS objective requirements and developed the FCS Counter IED strategy.  Additionally, Mr. Young served 13 years in the Army Reserve as an Engineer Officer.
