Matthew Cancian left the Marine Corps as a Captain in 2013 after deploying to Sangin, Afghanistan in 2011. He has a MALD from the Fletcher School and is currently a PhD Candidate at MIT. Over the last year, he has visited northern Iraq three times for research with the Peshmerga.
